POLYRISE : Innovation and custom design for optical solutions

innovative custom optical sol-gel coatings

Since 2006, POLYRISE has established itself as a key player in the field of optical coatings, thanks to its expertise in sol-gel chemistry and an approach focused on adapting to the unique needs of its customers.

Combining innovation and flexibility, POLYRISE offers customized solutions covering all stages, from chemical formulation to optimization of deposition processes and production management.

This comprehensive support guarantees a perfectly adapted response, from the prototyping phase to mass production.

Tailor-made expertise that makes the difference

POLYRISE’s approach is based on its ability to respond precisely to the needs of each project, by fully integrating the technical, industrial and logistical constraints of its customers. The solutions offered are not limited to a product, but are part of a real customization strategy.

At the heart of its expertise is the development of sol-gel solutions, a key technology for designing coatings that are thin, robust and high-performance. Far from generic formulations, each chemical solution is adjusted to meet specific objectives: improving mechanical resistance, maintaining perfect transparency or increasing durability in demanding environments. This customization guarantees total compatibility with the customer’s materials, optimal resistance to thermal cycles or increased resistance to abrasive agents.

At the same time, the deposition processes are adapted and optimized to guarantee uniform applications and consistent performance. Whether dip-coating, spray-coating or other techniques, the choice of method is always guided by the customer’s expectations. This technological mastery makes it possible to precisely control the thickness of the deposited layers, minimizing variations and ensuring perfect integration into production lines.

In addition, product packaging is specifically designed to meet logistical and operational constraints.

The solutions are systematically subject to specific quality controls, established in partnership with the customer. These customized protocols ensure that each product meets expectations in terms of mechanical, optical or chemical performance before its release and delivery.

Finally, in-depth traceability accompanies each project. This rigorous documentation, combined with detailed monitoring of product characteristics, guarantees a detailed understanding of performance and facilitates the necessary adjustments as part of continuous improvements.

Unlike standardized offers, this proactive and collaborative approach allows POLYRISE to create solutions that are perfectly adapted to each project, thus placing the company at the heart of its customers’ innovation strategies.

A successful collaboration with SAINT-GOBAIN AEROSPACE

The cooperation between POLYRISE and SAINT-GOBAIN AEROSPACE perfectly embodies the company’s tailor-made approach.

SAINT-GOBAIN AEROSPACE faced a dual challenge: protecting PMMA windows from scratches, both during manufacturing and in flight conditions, while meeting strict technical requirements in terms of optical quality. These complex constraints required a partner capable of not only designing a customized solution, but also proposing the most suitable process to meet their specifications.

From the outset, POLYRISE was able to establish a relationship of trust thanks to its responsiveness. By quickly and effectively responding to SAINT-GOBAIN AEROSPACE’s requests, the company has established a constructive dialogue that has enabled it to precisely identify specific requirements and needs. Laurent Maurin, Innovation Manager at POLYRISE, comments:

“This collaboration with SAINT-GOBAIN AEROSPACE perfectly illustrates our commitment to providing tailor-made solutions that go beyond standard market offerings. From the outset, our aim was not only to develop a high-performance coating, but also to ensure optimum integration into SAINT-GOBAIN’s industrial processes. By combining our expertise in sol-gel chemistry with an in-depth understanding of their specific constraints, we were able to design a solution that met both optical and mechanical requirements, while optimizing production efficiency. This project demonstrates the power of co-development, where trust, technical excellence and innovation combine to create truly customized solutions.”

POLYRISE not only developed a tailor-made sol-gel solution to meet the technical requirements, but also demonstrated, thanks to its expertise and extensive testing, that the dip-coating process coupled with the right product would be the best solution to achieve the required performance.

The key to success lies in POLYRISE’s ability to go beyond conventional approaches based on standardized products. Unlike other companies, POLYRISE  designed a custom sol-gel solution, specifically developed to meet the needs of SAINT-GOBAIN AEROSPACE. This customization made it possible to meet the technical criteria while ensuring smooth integration into the dip-coating process recommended by POLYRISE.

Marine Brunet, R&D Project Leader – Functional Wet Coating Group / Thin Films Department at SAINT-GOBAIN Research Paris, also underlines the importance of this collaboration:

“We tested many different varnishes and finally chose POLYRISE for their great reactivity and adaptability to our specific needs. POLYRISE was always ready to adjust the formulation to our technical constraints, even in the face of unexpected challenges such as the formation of bubbles when parts were soaked. Their transparency and proximity, as a French company close to our production site, were also decisive. This partnership has been particularly rewarding, as working with a structure like POLYRISE has enabled us to follow the entire project, from formulation to industrialization, offering a very positive experience.”

One of the major specificities of this project was the optical requirements, essential for aircraft windows. They must ensure perfect transparency while minimizing visual distortions, an imperative condition to guarantee passenger comfort and safety. POLYRISE demonstrated that the dip-coating process, combined with an optimized sol-gel formulation, having a matching refractive index, would make it possible to deposit ultra-thin layers with perfectly uniform thickness. This precision was essential to avoid any optical variation likely to distort the image perceived through the windows. In addition, the coating had to maintain its optical properties under extreme conditions, including temperature fluctuations, UV rays and mechanical stress.

POLYRISE also ensured that dip-coating, thanks to its precision and homogeneity, eliminates surface defects such as the “orange peel” effect, often associated with other technologies such as spraying. This process made it possible to minimize material losses and guarantee consistent quality across all treated surfaces, thus meeting SAINT-GOBAIN AEROSPACE’s expectations in terms of durability and performance.

By combining this process with a sol-gel formulation specifically designed for PMMA windows, POLYRISE succeeded in developing a coating offering increased mechanical protection against scratches while preserving perfect optical transparency. This coating also helps to improve resistance to environmental aggressions, such as humidity or chemicals, thus extending the service life of the windows.

Finally, this tailor-made solution not only met SAINT-GOBAIN AEROSPACE’s technical expectations; It has also been designed to integrate efficiently into high-volume production processes, without compromising quality.

This approach, combining customization, optical excellence and industrial mastery, illustrates POLYRISE’s ability to innovate while offering solutions adapted to the specific constraints of demanding markets such as aeronautics.

This success is the result of a close and constructive collaboration between the POLYRISE and SAINT-GOBAIN AEROSPACE teams. By combining their expertise, sharing their knowledge and maintaining open communication throughout the project, they were able to overcome technical challenges and achieve the desired performance with precision and efficiency.

A vision for the future

This collaboration with SAINT-GOBAIN AEROSPACE reflects POLYRISE’s commitment to developing tailor-made products and processes to meet the specific expectations of each customer. Far from simply providing high-performance products, the company supports its partners throughout their project: from defining needs to production, including process optimization.

With this approach combining innovation, customization and sustainability, POLYRISE has established itself as a leader in tailor-made optical coatings. Thanks to rigorous control of processes and resources, as well as its expertise in sol-gel technology, the company manages to offer high-performance, personalized and economically accessible solutions

By anticipating tomorrow’s technological and environmental needs, the company does not just meet its customers’ expectations: it exceeds them.
